Role summary
Field civil engineer responsible for construction engineering tasks and activities in concrete, structural steel, excavation, backfill, scaffolding, and architectural finishes using codes and standards. Responsibilities include developing work plans, coordinating materials, performing inspections, ensuring safety and quality control, reporting progress, and resolving design and construction conflicts through installation and testing to startup.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing
- Provide field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verify materials, equipment, and quality, assure results meet design requirements
- Develop work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to installation and testing of civil commodities
- Perform Civil Field Engineering activities including inspections, audits and planning to support installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural, earthwork and perform rigging support and planning activities for material and equipment
- Assure procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work
- Direct or perform preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiate requisitions for field material purchases
- Support preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities and ensure preparation of as-built drawings and other job plans
- Support planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection
- Review specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related subject from accredited university with 10 years progressive construction or civil engineering experience
- Alternatively, 15 years relevant experience in MENA region with sound understanding of cultural norms and requirements
- Physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs involving extensive walking around construction site, climbing ladders and scaffolding, using fall protection and personal protective equipment, walking on elevated platforms and uneven surfaces, maneuvering around confined spaces
- Strong English language communication and report writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, be team player with knowledge sharing approach
- Ability to solve problems by thinking laterally and understand needs of client and other entities
- Capable of working within multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and managing challenging multi-cultural relationships
- Self-driven and able to plan and execute work without direct supervision from senior management or peers
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of engineering, design, construction and field activities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Design Suite software programs with ability to prepare reports
Education
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related subject from accredited university
Experience
10 years of progressive construction or civil engineering experience; or alternatively 15 years of relevant experience in MENA region
