Role summary
Area Safety Engineer reports to Lead Safety Engineer or Project ESH Manager. Conducts project-wide ES&H initiatives including vehicle inspection campaigns and focused assessments of contract work sites.
Responsibilities
- Conduct project-wide ES&H initiatives including vehicle inspection campaigns and focused assessments of contract work sites: work at height safety, chemical storage, traffic and pedestrian management, environmental inspections, scaffold, PPE, and excavations
- Provide technical support and review of client contractor method statements and risk assessments
- Provide technical ES&H support to construction department and client contractors
- Participate in meetings with customers, project construction colleagues, and client contractors and subcontractors to advise on safety requirements affecting ES&H
- Provide recommendations and input for revising safety procedures, work processes, and other improvement measures
- Conduct safety inspections and assessments of project construction activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements
- Provide detailed reports on corrective actions
- Produce training presentations and deliver training when required
- Take on additional duties as assigned by Lead Safety Engineer and Project ESH Manager
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in subject relevant to ESH Management from accredited college or university
- Two to five years of experience with Bachelor's degree, or six to nine years of relevant work experience in construction industry or related fields
- Demonstrated experience implementing all aspects of Construction ESH Management
- NEBOSH or International General Certification preferred or similar recognized ESH certification
- Experience working with construction contractors to ensure ES&H standards are understood and complied with
- Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards
- Knowledge of People Based Safety (behavioral safety) processes and procedures
- Experience managing and providing technical oversight of safety and health subcontractors or consultants
- Experience in safety inspections and assessments during construction
- Knowledge of engineering and construction systems, methods, and work processes
- Knowledge of national and international environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards for environmental compliance
Education
