Role summary
The Director – Digital Engineering will provide technical leadership across Qiddiya's core digital product streams, ensuring that all platforms, services, and digital capabilities are designed and delivered to the highest engineering standards. The role is accountable for ensuring that digital products are built with a reusable, scalable, resilient, reliable, observable, and extensible architecture that can be leveraged across multiple Qiddiya assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical oversight of core digital product streams aligned with target architecture and engineering standards
- Define and enforce engineering principles around reusability, scalability, resiliency, reliability, observability, maintainability, security, and performance
- Ensure all technical decisions are reviewed, challenged, and validated with clear ownership over architecture
- Act as senior technical authority engaging in design, architecture, code, integration, infrastructure decisions
- Challenge vendor proposals, solution designs, implementation approaches, and technical trade-offs
- Ensure digital products are built as reusable capabilities extended across multiple Qiddiya assets
- Drive creation of reusable patterns, components, services, APIs, and engineering guidelines
- Partner with architecture, product, delivery, DevSecOps, cloud, and security teams
- Lead and manage Staff Software Engineers embedded within product streams
- Set clear expectations for Staff Engineers around governance, architecture review, and excellence
- Ensure Staff Engineers actively influence product delivery and protect technology interests
- Build strong internal engineering capability reducing vendor dependency for critical decisions
Qualifications
- Significant experience in senior engineering leadership roles within large-scale digital platforms
- Experience in e-commerce, entertainment, travel, hospitality, fintech, or high-traffic consumer digital environments
- Strong hands-on technical background challenging detailed engineering and architecture decisions
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in complex multi-vendor delivery models
- Strong experience governing delivery of reusable digital platforms and shared services
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and DevSecOps approaches
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, observability, resiliency, and reliability engineering
- Knowledge of secure-by-design delivery principles
- Experience working with executive stakeholders translating technical risks into business decisions
