Role summary
Leads product development from initial concept through prototype validation. Manages design resources and optimizes development processes. Oversees design team and develops production methods.
Responsibilities
- Establish and review design procedures and algorithms
- Track and forecast design trends for integration into company products and marketing strategies
- Maintain awareness of relevant international standards and scientific and technical developments
- Design and test new products for user-friendliness and market viability
- Design and create test jigs and simulators for product and prototype testing
- Simulate new design performance using simulation software followed by real-world testing
- Ensure all design work meets highest quality standards
- Oversee designers and develop production methods while troubleshooting production issues
- Initiate design changes for cost effectiveness and product consistency
- Generate ideas for new products and research implementation feasibility
- Record and analyze data evaluating design concept feasibility
- Develop timelines and cost estimates for product development tasks
- Apprise Operations Manager of performance against plan
- Evaluate document and implement design and process improvements
- Review technical submittals including customer drawings and specifications
- Examine BOQs for accuracy before procurement and production planning
- Optimize and automate design processes
- Train and develop the design team
- Maintain all design resources including CAD servers software licenses daily backups and technical information
Qualifications
- Technical college degree or diploma in mechanical engineering
- Understanding of fundamental engineering concepts in design and development fields
- Knowledge of complete product development process from design through production
- Proficiency in CAD software and Design for Manufacturing and assembly
- Written and spoken English and Arabic language skills
Education
Mechanical engineering degree or diploma from technical college
Experience
Minimum 3 years in similar position or as head of mechanical design section in steel fabrication unit. Minimum 3 to 4 years hands-on experience designing SAE equipment mufflers and tanks. Hands-on exposure to Solidworks or Autodesk platforms is advantageous.
